Why do we do what we do. Part 2- WHY IS COGHURT RAW?

Ferments For Every Gut | Gutsy Ferments

Being a typical health-loving mum of 3, I want to provide the best foods for my family. For me this means food that nourishes and tastes good at the same time. If I am ever on the go with the kiddies, there are very few foods that pass my approval list. So I’m a quite a fussy person when it comes to food. I prefer my food to be dairy free, gluten free, sugar free and if possible, raw.

I firmly believe that if I am going to fork out more money to pay for sustainable/bio-dynamic/organic produce or foods, I want to get my money’s worth. (okay, as much as I hate to admit it, I still think like a typical Asian mum after all. =P

Yoghurt was always a great food choice for the kids before we made our transition into consuming more raw food. But all commercial organic dairy yoghurt has usually been pasteurised (think de-natured proteins -> carcinogens), loaded with sugar, emulsifiers, thickeners and usually artificial flavourings.  As it is illegal to buy unpasteurised dairy milk for consumption, Coghurt became our yoghurt alternative.

I want to take out any possibility of consuming BPA, vegetable gums or thickeners. And of course, anything canned is NOT raw, so canned coconut milk is out of the question.

The best option we could find was to make yoghurt out of raw coconut flesh.

Raw coconut meat is a super food which has an abundance of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and living enzymes. Exposing coconuts to heat will drastically reduce the nutritional value. (I will discuss the benefits of consuming coconuts in another post.) The process of fermentation also helps in pre-digesting the coconut and allows the nutrients within to be easily absorbed by the body.

We are proud to be the only company producing raw (un-heated) coconut yoghurt commercially.  Coghurt is also the only product made entirely from *wild-harvested Australian coconuts.  Since there are currently no certified organic coconuts available for purchase in Australia, wild harvested coconuts are our only option and they’re fantastic.

In a nutshell, Coghurt is an ULTRA superfood.

Coghurt can currently be purchased from the West end markets every Saturday. Come check us out and have a taste of Coghurt. We are looking into making it available for online purchase and in leading health food shops.

To achieving raw health together,

*With 100% wild harvested Aussie coconuts, our coconut harvester does not guarantee that there is absolutely no chemicals in the coconuts he harvest. However, he would in his ability harvest only from isolated beaches, land away from building structure or farms, or any populated areas.
