This is a hands-on workshop which means you will have a chance to get close and personal with this ferment. In this easy, gluten-free sourdough workshop you will be getting your hands sticky and learning through doing. We’ll start by running through the science behind sourdough fermentation and why sourdough is important then we’ll get right into it.
First you will learn how to create and look after a gluten-free sourdough starter. Once made, this starter will belong to you so that you can take it home and propagate it and use it forever. Using your new starter you will make your own seedy, gluten-free loaf of bread from scratch. We’ll wrap this loaf up and set it aside for you to take home and bake in your own oven.
One you’ve got the basics worked out we’ll step it up a level. Do you like sourdough fruit-loaf? Or maybe you prefer your sourdough with beets and fennel or how about a golden loaf of turmeric & currants. During this phase you’ll be able to choose your own flavourings and make a second sourdough loaf which you get to take home and bake whenever you’re ready. We find it best to take your loaves home and bake so you can share it with your friends and family when it’s hot from the oven.
We will also provide you with a sourdough recipe book covering what we will be doing on the day. This recipe book will also have inspiration for future sourdough adventures.
After the sourdough workshop we invite you to share a light dinner based on seasonal produce and fermented goodies. There will be hearty, gluten-free sourdough bread followed by a cultured dessert (dinner is included in the cost of the course). During this time we will discuss what we have learnt and inspire each other with recipes to try at home!
