Did you know that "Brix" is the unit of measurement used to indicate the amount of nutrients from the bone that are dissolved in liquid. Your average home-made bone broth has about 5-6 Brix. Our Gutsy bone broth has around 60 Brix. That means it's 10x more nutrient dense than your average bone broth, better for your gut.
What is Bone Broth?
As important as our microbiome is, we also need to consider the home of our microbiome, our gastrointestinal (GI) tract.
Do you know there are 3 power ingredients found in bone broth that assists in sealing the gut? Collagen, found in bone broth, is known to boost mucosal lining and reduce inflammation in the process. Glutamine and amino acid found in bone broth has been shown to dramatically and safely assist in sealing the gut by reducing hyperpermeability of the gut lining. Gelatin, also found in bone broth, effectively reinforces the gut’s mucus layer integrity, which is shown to beneficially change the microbiome.

Benefits of our Bone Broth Range
Bone broth contains bones and marrow which contain collagen. It is this essential ingredient of the broths and powders that make the range so special. Collagen is a combination of nineteen amino acids and is one of the main building blocks for skin, bones, muscles, tendons and ligaments.
Unfortunately it’s hard to obtain in the diet, even for meat lovers. That’s where drinking collagen-rich foods such as bone broth is so healthy.
The collagen in our bodies is found in our skin, blood, bones muscles, tendons and the digestive system. It helps our skin retain its elasticity, particularly as we age, and is described as the “glue” that keeps our joints and tendons healthy.
Unfortunately, collagen becomes more depleted over time and other poor lifestyle choices — such as smoking, eating a high sugar diet and too much exposure to the sun — may accelerate this depletion.
Consuming collagen-rich foods, such as bone broth, may help provide the necessary rich proteins to help boost collagen levels.
Bone broth is not just a rich source of protein though. It also contains vitamins such as Vitamin K and A, omega 3 and 6 fatty acids and a range of minerals such as calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sulphur, sodium and silicon.
How to use bone broth
Liquid bone broth can simply be warmed and sipped, much like a cup of tea! You may also add extra flavours such as lemon or ginger to the bone broth.
All bone broths may be used as a base for gravy, soups, stews, stir-fries and braises. Bone broth is so versatile, you can even use bone broths instead of water in your cooking.
Why not try using a few teaspoons of bone broth when you cook rice, then add one (or more) of our range of fermented foods such as sauerkraut or kimchi to toss through in a stir-fry.
